In Memoriam, Founding Partner 1992-2014

C. MICHAEL SHALLOWAY is a Board Certified Specialist in Elder Law by the Florida Bar and practices Elder and Special Needs Law with his son in West Palm Beach in the firm of Shalloway & Shalloway, P.A.

Shalloway earned his Juris Doctor degree from the University of Florida. He is admitted to practice before the Florida Supreme Court, the United States Supreme Court, and the Trial Bar of the Federal District Court for the Southern District of Florida. He is a former judge and was selected by his fellow judges as Administrative Judge for Palm Beach County Court. He has written several sections of the Florida Bar’s Board Certification Review Course that prepares candidates for board examination, and has regularly lectured for the Bar for that
course.

He has been selected repeatedly through an extensive process of peer review, nominations, blue ribbon panel review, and independent research by Florida Law and Politics Magazine, as among the top five percent of Florida Lawyers.

He has served numerous terms on the Executive Council of the Florida Bar Elder Law Section. His committee work for the section has included chairing the Government Benefits Committee, which focuses on Medicaid, Medicare, managed care matters, and Ethics Committee. He also has been a key member of the Housing Committee, which addresses Nursing Home, Assisted Living, and Home Health Care substantive issues.

The Academy of Florida Elder Law Attorneys has awarded Shalloway its coveted SENIOR AWARD. He has served the Academy on its Board of Directors. The Academy has selected him on numerous occasions to be a presenter at its MEET THE EXPERTS program. He is an active member of the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys, and the National College of Probate Judges. He lectures and publishes in the area of elder law, with emphasis on Estate and Gift Tax Planning, Medicaid Planning, Asset Protection, Special Needs Trusts, Medicare Set Aside Trusts, and Trust Administration.

Shalloway was a cofounder and Executive Committee member of the Palm Beach County Elder Justice Center.

In 2002, Shalloway was one of two attorneys recognized by the Palm Beach County Bar Association for service to the Bench,the Bar and the Public of Palm Beach County, Florida.

His service to the Palm Beach County Bar has included five terms as chair of its Elder Law Practice Committee/Continuing Education Committee, regular lecturer for the Guardianship Education Committee, author of a chapter of its Guardianship handbook, and member of the Probate & Guardianship Practice Committee. Shalloway served the Palm Beach, Martin, Indian River, and Okeechobee Counties as First Vice President and Director of the Area Agency on Aging of Palm Beach/Treasure Coast, Inc.

He is also retired from the teaching faculty of the continuing education division of Florida Atlantic University, where heconducted classes on probate.

He is a member of the advisory board of the Florida Institute for Medicare Advocacy, and on the Palm Beach County Live Alone Task Force, which addresses solutions for infirm and elderly community residents. He is a past Co-Chair of the Greater Palm Beach Area Alzheimer’s Disease Educational Conference, and member of the community advisory board for Hospice of Palm Beach County, Inc. He is accredited by the Department of Veteran Affairs for the preparation, presentation, and prosecution of claims for veterans.
