Palm Beach County Proclaims November 2019 Alzheimer’s Awareness Month

Alzheimers Awareness Month

The Palm Beach County Commission officially declared November 2019, as Alzheimer’s Public Awareness Month by issuing a proclamation on Tuesday, November 5th. As Vice-Chair of the Board of Directors of Alzheimer’s Community Care, attorney G. Mark Shalloway was on hand to share in the honor and recognition given to Alzheimer’s Community Care. Mr. Shalloway made a presentation to the Commission and accepted the proclamation along with Alzheimer’s Community Care President and CEO, Mary M. Barnes.

Alzheimer’s Disease is a public health crisis across the country and especially in Florida, the state with the second-highest rate of people suffering from a neurocognitive disorder in the country. Alzheimer’s touches the lives of more than 560,000 Florida residents living with a neurocognitive disorder and the more than one million family caregivers who provide care and assistance daily. In Palm Beach County alone, over 51,000 families cope with this disease every day.

The Palm Beach County proclamation specifically recognizes Alzheimer’s Community Care and Alzheimer’s Association Southeast Florida Chapter for providing vital care and support, valuing the need for dementia-specific care, and supporting families and a cure for patients. Alzheimer’s Community Care provides a long menu of valuable programs, including the Florida Silver Alert Program and ID Locator Bracelet Program, both directed at locating lost or wandering Alzheimer’s patients and reuniting them with their caregivers in a matter of minutes, not hours or days. Other programs the organization offers include a Family Nurse Consultant Program, specialized licensed day care and service centers, case management, a 24/7 crisis line, education and training.

“Alzheimer’s Community Care is committed to the safety, well-being, dignity and quality of life of individuals with Alzheimer’s and dementia,” says Board Member Mark Shalloway. “I’m proud to be part of an organization that does so much to improve the lives of persons living with Alzheimer’s as well as their families.” Alzheimer’s Community Care can be found online at www.alzcare.org, and they can be reached during the week at 561-683-2700. The organization’s crisis line is 800-394-1771.
